Creating Really Awesome Free Things.

I am obsessed with my friend Jamie's blog, {C.R.A.F.T.}.
She is so creative and her resourcing to find other creative DIY projects from other talented crafty people is UNREAL!
I came across a post recently called {Creating Really Awesome Free Trips}.
It's a Linky party open for bloggers to come up with 10 FREE things to do in their cities.
I LOVE the city I live in, so I decided to give this a ago!
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

1. LOS RIOS STREET
A favorite place for many in Southern California to have wedding, engagement, family portraits done, this is historic downtown San Juan Capistrano. It's a historic district that spans TWO CENTURIES! The O’Neill Museum houses the SJC Historical Society and tells the story of the town and the O’Neill Ranch that covered most of south Orange County and the part of north San Diego County that is now Camp Pendleton. Today, many of the historic structures, including the 1894 Santa Fe Railway Depot, have been converted into shops or restaurants that invite exploration.

2. SWALLOWS DAY PARADE
This is a once a year event, but totally worth it to make a trip out to San Juan Capistrano just for this parade! The Swallows Day parade is the nation's largest non motorized parade. All floats and displays are pulled by horses, people, or everyone walks in the parade! Theres TONS of cultures represented in the parade. It's really amazing! The purpose of the parade is the celebrate {the Legend of the Return of the Swallows}. I, personally have gone every year since moving here, and have ALWAYS had an absolute blast...for free of course :-)

3. SECOND SATURDAY ART FAIR
Just like the name of it, this art fair goes every second Saturday of the month! Local artists, jewelery makers, crocheters, sewers, etc. come out and display their creations. Everything is for sale, but it's just a lot of fun to go window shopping and see the talent our little community has to offer.

4. The Mission
This is the ONLY Mission in Orange County. Filled with TONS of history, a museum, and some breathtaking gardens. This is a must see. This isn't TOTALLY free. There is a small entrance fee (like two bucks??), but it is one of the main attractions in San Juan Capistrano.

5. Cleveland National Forest
For mountain bikers and hikers, Cleveland Natural Forest is an GORGEOUS forest located in San Juan Capistrano. It's more popular for bikers, but a few daring people like to climb it. I hear it's quite a work out!
6. Capistrano Beach
A day at the beach? Yes, please! Capistrano Beach is a quiet beach that's not so "touristy". Take your beach gear and lay out while watching the local surfers. It doesn't help that we have year round beautiful weather!

7.  Downtown Farmer's Market
This is open every Wednesday! Some of the freshest produce around from local growers and farmers. It's not just produced either! They have homemade hot sauces made by a local bottler, homemade jams and jellies, handmade soaps, etc. The cool thing is, it's all local vendors!

8. Swallows Inn
A hole in the wall "Cheers" like biker/country western bar. I feel like I'm in Texas again when I go here. The Live Music is what most people go for. You can hear the music all throughout San Juan Capistrano on a Saturday night. This can be an awesome FREE experience if you don't choose to partake in adult beverages, but chances are someone will end up buying you a drink if you don't have one in hand.

9. The Battle of the Mariachis
No-holds-barred music competition that pits mariachi against mariachi for cash prizes and future performances. Each mariachi is given a 15 minute time slot to perform for a panel of judges composed of prominent community and business leaders. Tons of marionette shows, mariachi themed vendors and authentic Mexican food!!

10. San Juan Summer Nights Concert Series
Sponsored by the city of San Juan Capistrano, these popular concerts feature live music, local restaurants and a shop & dine expo with local businesses selling products and offering giveaways. Concerts are FREE!

SO, THERE YOU HAVE IT!
Come visit us in beautiful Southern California!
We're more than just beaches and fancy cars.
We're full of culture and fun free things!
